Teavana Logo

The company was founded in Atlanta, Georgia by Rick and Heidi Steen in 1997. The first store opened on Ponce de Leon Avenue in the city’s historic Highland Park neighbourhood. In the late 1990s, Teavana stores were often found in malls, but the company began to focus on stand-alone “tea bars” from 2006 onwards. The company’s first international store opened in Toronto, Canada in 2003.

In December 2012, Starbucks Corporation announced it was purchasing Teavana for $620 million. At the time of the purchase, Teavana operated around 379 stores, most of which were located in shopping malls.

On July 26, 2017, Starbucks announced that it will close all Teavana locations by the end of 2018. Teavana goods, on the other hand, are still available at Starbucks in a very limited number.
